Ivan Abel is a New York-based cinematographer, camera operator and film-maker, who works on films, television, and commercials. He loves to collaborate with directors to create unique concepts and ideas for each project. Ivan has extensive experience working with motion control systems (Technodolly, Milo, Kuper) and complicated technical setups, as well as hand-held, natural light projects with a minimal footprint. Since moving from his native Slovakia to New York in 2002, Ivan has lent his expertise to numerous productions involving some of the best known performers and directors, including Depeche Mode, Bjork, Michel Gondry, and Todd Haynes. He shot VFX and the model/miniature unit on the feature film The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman.
Ivan’s first feature film Sunrise with Guy Pearce and Alex Pettyfer (dir. Andrew Baird) was finished in 2023. His second feature film, Dead Money, with Emile Hirsch, Rory Culkin and Jackie Earle Haley (dir. Luc Walpoth) was released in fall 2024.
